If you’re not familiar with the terminology, a PBX is the central hub that controls a business phone system and is responsible for things like routing calls between extensions, ring groups, call transfers, voicemail, IVR call tree menus, hold music, etc. Old analog PBX systems consisted of heavy, large equipment that was mounted in a network closet with analog wiring connections to the phones in the building. Modern VoIP telephones replace PBX equipment with software and replace analog wiring with a computer network.
